Beneficial opportune regeneration in elastic WDM networks
01 January 2018
This study illustrates the benefit of "opportune" regeneration while WDM networks are becoming more elastic in terms of spectral efficiency versus transmission reach of optical carriers. In that context, we show that fair deployment of 17% more 64 GBaud elastic transponders can increase the maximum capacity of a German core network by 74% as compared to a fully transparent implementation without regeneration.
