Coherent Transmitters and Receivers for Pluggable Modules

We review recent advances in coherent transponders for pluggable modules. Critical technologies such as dense photonic integration techniques, such as planar lightwave circuits, silicon photonics, compound semiconductor photonics integrated circuits, etc. and the associated electro-optical integrations into compact modules will be surveyed and discussed.
