Components for Undersea Lightwave Communications - Current Status and Future Directions

Digital lightwave technology has begun to impact international communications. The first generation of undersea lightwave systems has been installed across the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans, i.e., TAT-8 and Haw-4/TPC-3, respectively. Fiber connectivity now exists between Tokyo and Guam through Hawaii and the United States mainland to London and Paris.
