Computer Simulation of a System for Reading Cursive Script: Modifications and Experiment II
The computer simulation of a system for reading handwriting on a "letter-by- letter" basis has been described by L.D. Harmon. sup (1) This system extracts local features of letters such as vertical extrema, cusps, closures, retrograde strokes, and special marks, and stores them in a decision matrix. Operations are performed on this matrix to segment the script into individual letter domains; letter identification follows. This system, originally simulated on the IBM 704 Computer, has now been converted for use with the IBM 7090 Computer.
