Confirmation of High-Velocity UV Fe and Si Absorption Lines from the Remnant of Sn 1006

New Image

We have obtained new low dispersion IUE spectra of a faint sdOB star (the 'Schweizer-Middleditch' star) located in the direction to the center of the remnant of SN 1006. Analysis of three spectra of this star covering the region 1200-3000A together with a re-analysis of its previously published spectra (Wu et al. 1983, Ap.J., 269, L5) was made in comparison with low dispersion IUE spectra of similar sdOB stars (HD 49798, HD 127493,HD 149382). These combined data clearly indicate that the basic conclusions of Wu et al. are correct; namely, that this star's spectrum exhibits strong and distinctly non-stellar broad resonance lines of Fe II, Si II, and Si IV.
