A five-axis Cartesian coordinate arm is controlled with natural connected speech input. The language allows the user to interact with the robot in terms familiar to most people. For example, "move the small red cube to the left of the large green cylinder" is interpreted by the robot system in a blocks world environment. The robot knows what the descriptions mean, where to acquire the objects, and how to move among other objects on the table without collision.
