Convection in a Binary Fluid Mixture in an Annulus
22 November 1987
Convection in binary fluids confined in a one dimensional geometry (an annulus of aspect ratio 1:2:120; height:width:diameter) is studied. For a range of temperature differences across the cell various stationary states are observed: clockwise or counterclockwise traveling waves, confined states consisting of bands of traveling waves and conduction zones, and stationary defects (sources or sinks of waves).
