This talk examines the interplay between Web services and telecom services along three dimensions: profile data management, preferences management, and services composition. We compare and contrast Web and telecom requirements for these dimensions, and describe key research initiatives. We highlight research challenges created by the emergence of converged services, including the needs for selective privacy of data sharing, for rich but controllable services personlization, for composition of discrete and session-oriented services, and for realtime and reliable performance.
