A previous investigation (Tholen and Armstrong, 1985) demonstrated that the occurrence of a storm sudden commencement (SSC) significantly increases the probability of observing energetic particle bursts in the magnetosphere, particularly in the magnetotail. Reported here is an evaluation of all such observed particle bursts following SSC's between 1973 and 1983. Data from five magnetometer stations near L=4 were used to investigate the details of the correlations between SSC amplitudes, occurrence times, particle burst characteristics, and triggering probability.
