Certain polymers are known to dissolve high concentration of inorganic salts with the results that ionic conductivity is observed in these systems. These polymers may serve as solid electrolytes in electromechanical devices such as batteries. One type of polymer not previously examined in this context poly(vinylene) carbonate) which exhibits low conductivity with dissolved salts. Crown ethers are a class of organic compounds that form complexes with inorganic cations.
