Datakit(R) Virtual Circuit Switch Host Interfaces and Their Applications
26 August 1988
Datakit(R) VCS is a wide area network designed to carry a variety of traffic with low delay. The network has been used widely in AT&T operations support systems and as a backbone network in several internal RBOC networks. Datakit VCS provides fiber and copper multiplexed host interfaces that can be used as the basis for providing UNIX(R) system LAN features such as remote execution, file transfer, and Remote File Sharing (RFS). This talk will review an implementation of these features and briefly discuss several network applications (eg. security server) that can be built using them. A outline of a UNIX(R) architecture supporting these features and a STREAMS OSI protocol stack is also included.
