Demonstration of Synchronous Traffic Transport Over a Time-Multiplexed WDM Ring
23 February 2004
We demonstrate a new architecture that overcomes the bandwidth bottleneck of SONET rings with high node count by allocating different WDM channels for each receiving node and transmitting time-multiplexed packets with fast tunable transmitters. We convert OC-12 SONET frames with PRBSsup31 - 1 payloads into asynchronous 10 Gb/s optical packets, transmit them between three nodes with mixed fiber types (SMF and NZ-DSF) and distances (40 km and 50 km), and convert the packets back into synchronous SONET frames.
