The author describes a graphical method for designing a network for a specified frequency-impedance characteristic. The method consists in transforming the expression for the impedance into a curve with two symmetrical branches by suitable substitution and comparing this with a family of standard curves. The family of standard curves is suggested by the consideration that expressions for the impedance can be rationalised in terms of elliptic functions which are symmetrical functions. The process of arriving at the constants of various networks is outlined.
