Design of convolutional single parity-check codes with structure
30 November 2011
It has recently been reported that the codes constructed using spatial coupling, such as convolutional low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes and convolutional BCH codes, show extremely good error performance. This paper presents a method to construct convolutional single parity-check (SPC) codes. The suggested method enables linear time encoding via systematic code construction, i.e., via simply appending parity to data. Furthermore, the decoder can be easily implemented in hardware since the codes are designed such that the edges of their graph grow progressively under the constraint of regular structure. This approach is especially efficient to design high-rate codes which utilize soft-decision decoding. The performance of a rate 0.94 convolution SPC code is demonstrated through simulations.
