Development of dispersion compensation for use in high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy.

A new high resolution electron energy loss (EELS) spectrometer based on dispersion compensation has been designed, built, and tested. A detailed analysis indicates that this system should yield two to three orders of magnitude more signal than conventional spectrometers operating at comparable energy resolution.
