Dewdrop communication system performance
14 November 1962
An s.s.b. suppressed carrier quadruple-diversity system operating between 350 and 450 Mc/s and employing tropospheric scatter propagation is described. The operation and maintenance problems of this single-hop link between Thule Greenland and Cape Dyer Canada, 691 miles apart, are discussed under the following subheadings: transmitter power; propagation effects; limitations due to multipath; total system loss; part replacements; circuit availability; and signal levels and channel net loss. In its present design form, the system is not expected to be capable of handling high-speed data transmissions.
