Digital Coding of Waveforms: Principles and Applications to Speech and Video
Preface: Digital Coding is by no means a new subject. It has been practiced for the better part of fifty years, with the last twenty years, witnessing an unprecedented amount of activity. The number of archival publications in this period is in the thousands. The momentum of this activity is expected to continue although there may be important shifts in emphasis. One such shift may be from concepts-type literature to implementation-type endeavors. As in many other subjects, fundamental innovations will probably, and hopefully, continue to be made in digital coding, leading to advances in bit rate reduction more impressive than those reported in this book.
