AT&T's digital conferencing systems provide user control and call set-up by TOUCH-TONE dialing in response to voice announcements. Although the 1st generation used 64 Kb/s PCM encoded speech for these announcements [1], current technology allows announcement storage at 9.6 Kb/s using multipulse LPC encoding.
