Dynamic Polarization-Mode-Dispersion Compensation in WDM Systems
01 January 2000
We show the first experimental result of polarization-mode-dispersion compensation (PMDC) in forty-channel four-span WDM systems. Error-floor caused by nonlinear cross-depolarization was elegantly solved by employing strong FEC. By using an approach of accelerated outage probability test, for the first time, the long-term performance (years) can be deduced by conducting a short-term (days) test. The test show that our PMDC can compensate up to a mean PMD of 35 ps for an outage probability of one Severely-Errored-Second (SES) per year.
