Easier Network Management with the SIP CLF
01 September 2011
With the growing use of IP networks, today's messaging, voice and video communications rely increasingly on Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). However, it's not easy for service providers to review the performance of their SIP servers in a multi-vendor environment, because each vendor currently uses its own format for call logs. The SIP common log format (CLF) addresses this issue by enabling uniform output from every type of SIP entity.
The format is now undergoing standardization by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). And when implemented across the industry, the SIP CLF will speed and simplify a wide range of network management tasks, including call tracking, troubleshooting, detecting anomalies and analyzing call trends. Consequently, the CLF can play an important role in maintaining peak network performance, with less time and effort
