Editorial on Current Information and Engineering Issues: Selling Sizzle Without the Steak

Over the past several months I've been spending a great deal of my time thinking about document delivery. As the director of the Library Network operated by AT&T Bell Laboratories, I am concerned with how to satisfy the information requirements of our customers. As a Director of Ei I am concerned with how well that organization satisfies all of its customers' needs. In all of these roles one clear message emerges. Information organizations must provide more than pointers to the right information. They have to package full, end-to-end service that delivers complete documents when the customer wants them. Otherwise they are merely Bantalizing their customers--they are selling them the sizzle without the ability to deliver the steak.
