Effect of Melt Composition on Bi Incorporation in Iron Garnets.
01 January 1989
The solubility of garnet and the growth rate and crystal composition of rare-earth iron garnet films grown from a PbO/Bi sub 2 O sub 3 /B sub 2 O sub 3 flux were investigated. The concentrations of the garnet component oxides, B sub 2 O sub 3 ,Bi sub 2 O sub 3 and the ratio Fe sub 2 O sub 3 /RE sub 2 O sub 3 in the were systematically varied to determine their effect. The melts can be shown generally to obey van Erk's theory of solubility and growth rate. However, an increase of either the B of Bi concentration in the melt increases both the garnet solubility and the segregation coefficient of Bi into growing garnet films.
