Efficient Millimeter-Wave Bandpass Ti:LiNbO sub 3 Switch/Modulator

We report a Ti:LiNbO sub 3 balanced-bridge Mach-Zehnder switch/modulator for 1.3microns wavelength that makes use of periodic electrode phase-reversals to attain an electrical - 3 dB bandpass response ~11 GHz wide centered at ~36 GHz. Full on-off modulation at 36 GHz is attained with a source drive power of only ~407 mW.
