Efficient Transmission of ARQ Feedback for EGPRS Radio Link Control
01 January 1999
The Enhanced General Packet Radio Service (EGPRS) is currently being standardized for the evolution of current GSM systems to support high rate packet data services. EGPRS provides higher data rates compared to GPRS through the following enhancements: 1) Use of 8-PSK modulation in addition to GMSK modulation; 2) Convolutional encoding and puncturing designed to provide a range of code rates; 3) Dynamic link adaptation between different coding and modulation schemes to achieve the best delay/throughput tradeoff under prevailing channel conditions; 4) Incremental Redundancy to achieve higher throughput. In order to achieve the above objectives, nine modulation and coding schemes (MCS-1 to MCS-9) have been proposed for EGPRS, and Radio Link Control (RLC) Protocol segmentation and retransmission procedures have been specified.
