EL2 and the electronic structure of the As sub Ga -As sub i pair in GaAs: The role of Jahn-Teller Relaxation.

This paper is the text of an invited talk at the MRS Meeting in Boston, December 1987. It describes in non-mathematical terms, the mechanism for the metastable behavior of the EL2 defect which we proposed and calculated in an earlier work, 11157-871009-21TM. It also shows how they account for a large range of previously unexplained experimental results, and proposes new experiments to further test the ideas presented here.
