A realistic tight binding theory, based on first principles energy band results on Mattheiss, is used to study the electron - phonon interaction in the new high T sub (c) superconductors La sub (2- x) (bA,Sr) sub (x) CuO sub (4). The calculations include the phonon dispersion curves, phonon linewidths, the Eliashberg function alpha sup (2) (omega) F (omega) the interaction constant lambda.
