Electronic Detection of Molecule-Surface Interactions
29 June 1987
It has long been known that surface physical and chemical states can strongly affect and indeed dominate the bulk-averaged electronic properties of a semiconductor, [1] and that semiconductor surfaces can function as chemical detectors. As part of a systematic study of the coupling of surface chemistry to electronic properties, we have measured dramatic changes in recombination lifetimes and resistance due to controlled changes in the physical and chemical state of InP(100) and InP(110) surfaces.
