This talk will review some of the exciting frontiers in electronic materials research today and project the flow of these concepts into tomorrow's technologies. Research in silicon, III-V compounds and organic solids will be presented for the long range technology pulls of high speed arithmetic computation, enhanced graphic capabilities and flexible machine-human interfaces.

Processing trends in three dimensional integration, electrooptic integration and interconnection will be accessed from an operational perspective. Finally, the ultimate challenge of high levels of complexity will be discussed with examples of new directions in neutral network computation.
