Methods of manufacture in the electronics (including photonics) industry have become increasingly chemical. This important trend opens up new opportunities for nontraditional forms of chemical engineering. Examples drawn from microlithography, chip fabrication, substrate board manufacture, and optical fiber preform preparation and drawing will be presented.
