Electronic Materials Research at AT&T Bell Laboratories

AT&T Bell Laboratories provides the technology base for AT&T to be a leader in the field of information systems and services. The overall structure is unified by this mission and its common technologies. The Research Area is centralized, but it interacts continuously from design to manufacturing.
It contains a spectrum of emphasis from fundamental science to engineering. The function of materials research will be illustrated with examples of the transistor, VLSI silicon technology, lightwave communications and neural networks.
