Electronic Packaging and Corrosion: Forecast - Corrosion in Microelectronics

R.P. Frankenthal (AT&T-BL) concentrated on the environmental factors that affect corrosion and on directions for future research that will hopefully lead to a better understanding of these factors. He first outlined some problems associated with the oxidation of electronic materials, then those arising from the effect of moisture, and finally those due to the synergistic effect of moisture and other contaminants on the corrosion of microelectronic devices.
