In this paper, the throughput gain in a point-to-point single user Hybrid ARQ (HARQ) system is investigated by introducing reduced retransmission size. For that, two retransmission schemes are proposed and compared to the common HARQ (cHARQ), defined by an Long Term Evolution (LTE) uplink scenario. The first scheme reduces the retransmission size by the XOR addition of parts of the generated retransmission out of cHARQ system. The second approach easily introduces an additional puncturing on top of the original packet. For both schemes a throughput performance analysis is done in an LTE link-level uplink chain.
