Link Management in Next Generation Optical Networks

This paper investigates and compares several mechanisms for link management in both control and data planes, with special focus on the neighbor discovery approaches. Since link management protocol (LMP) is being standardized as a part of generalized multiprotocol label switching (GMPLS), the related issues are also addressed in this paper.
