New energy saving multicarrier transceivers and their standardization
01 September 2010
This letter describes how the energy efficiency of base stations used in mobile communications can be improved by replacing state-of-the-art single carrier transceivers by novel multicarrier transceivers that suppress the need for lossy combiner stages. In the particular case of the GSM radio access technology, it is shown how the standards had to be adapted to enable the feasibility of such multicarrier architectures.
