Optimization of broadband Raman amplification in ultra-long-haul DWDM transmissions

We consider the effects of gain flattening, ASE noise, multiple-path interference, and RIN noise transfer from pumps on broadband Raman amplification. We show numerically that Raman pumped ultra-long-haul transmissions significantly outperform those without Raman amplification.
