Overview (Guest Editor's Introduction for BLTJ v18-1 General Papers issue)

The telecommunication landscape is changing rapidly. This General Papers issue of the Bell Labs Technical Journal includes papers on a range of topics that address the challenges our networks are facing. The papers are grouped by topical areas. We start with an overview of recent advances in wireless technologies, and follow with discussions on methods for delivering data to wireless endpoints, on cloud-based architectures for wireless networks, and on technologies for access networks. We close out the issue with a discussion of network services.
