Kurt Bauer works at the University of Vienna in the "ACOnet and Vienna
Internet eXchange (VIX)" team. He studied computer science and wrote his master thesis on IPv6 at the University of Vienna in 1999, during which time he worked on the implementation of IPv6 in the ACOnet backbone. In 2001 he returned to the University of Vienna to work on the 6net project. Since then he has been working in the ACOnet and Vienna Internet eXchange team, jointly responsible for the operation, security and further development of the network and services. As part of this work, he is also involved in anti-DDoS measures to protect both ACOnet's own infrastructure and that of the ACOnet participants from DDoS attacks.

In the last four years I added the markets France, Italy and Benelux to our platform, and I extended the footprint of connected data centres in US from two to six data centre / colo sites. Last major project/initiative I was leading and implementing was the upgrade of our US core infrastructure from 10G to 100G, in the same project I also introduced Nokia as new vendor in that core network.

He started with Timetra Networks in 2001, leading the development of MPLS and related technologies, and arrived at Nokia through a series of M&A activity. Vach has been a speaker at many conferences, and a regular contributor to standards in the IETF. He was co-chair of the l2vpn Working Group at the IETF for five years.
