Real-time, network-agnostic UGV teleoperation for Milrem Robotics with Nokia RXRM

Milrem Robotics is a leading developer of robotics and autonomous systems and systems integrator for the defense sector. Originated from Estonia, Milrem Robotics now has offices in seven counties. The company’s mission is to enhance combat effectiveness through advanced robotics. Milrem Robotics’ systems are currently part of robotics programs or in service in 19 countries worldwide.

To advance mission effectiveness, Milrem sought to streamline real-time monitoring and teleoperation of its unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). The solution needed to deliver ultra-low latency, end-to-end security, high reliability, bandwidth efficiency, and truly network-agnostic operation.

Milrem selected Nokia’s Real-time eXtended Reality Multimedia (RXRM) software, paired with the Nokia 5G 360 Camera, to enable immersive teleoperation and situational awareness. Nokia and Milrem jointly conducted extensive hands-on trials on Milrem UGVs, engaging multiple users to validate ease of use and real-time performance.

Nokia provided a complete, secure hardware and software stack. During testing, Nokia RXRM and the Nokia 5G 360 Camera operated over a network separate from Milrem’s - demonstrating seamless, network-agnostic performance. This new approach to teleoperation proved intuitive for vehicle operators while meeting stringent real-time requirements.

Nokia RXRM and Nokia 5G 360 Camera are now fully integrated on Milrem’s HAVOC 8×8 RCV. This solution was showcased at DSEI London in 2025, a flagship event for the global defense industry.

The system’s minimal latency and up to 90 % bandwidth saving allow real-time teleoperation and situational awareness use cases. The ease of use of real-time 360 video and audio improves the usability and operational accuracy of UGV mobility. Camera’s IP67, vibration and shock resistance and built-in security ensure seamless operation in the very harshest conditions and most challenging environments, for which the Milrem UGVs are designed for.
