Technology and standards
When we talk about the next generation of voice calling, we’re not just imagining the future—we’re building it together.
The standardized technology to make immersive communication possible is already here and ready to use. IVAS codec design was a collaborative effort to enable broad adoption across the mobile ecosystem.
Developer resources
To support developers and industry partners, Immersive Voice includes two software development kits: the Client SDK and the Mixer SDK.
Learn how the IVAS codec will transform audio communication
The IVAS (Immersive Voice and Audio Services) codec, standardized by 3GPP, is the first audio codec built from the ground up for immersive conversations. With key contributions from across the industry, including Nokia, IVAS is optimized for 5G mobile systems and future-ready use cases.
MASA format—What you need to know
The MASA (Metadata-Assisted Spatial Audio) format is essential for delivering spatial realism in voice communication. It allows listeners to feel like they’re part of the caller’s soundscape—adding direction, depth, and presence to every interaction. Along with the MASA format, IVAS codec can also carry separate mono audio objects, that can be individually controlled on the receiving side. For example, their spatial direction and volume can be adjusted. Learn how these technologies work.
OZO Audio and OZO Playback
While our current focus is on the opportunities enabled by IVAS-powered solutions, we continue to support our existing OZO Audio and OZO Playback partners.
