Biography

Vishwajit Kulkarni is an embedded software engineer in the Platform and ASIC Research (PAR) team at Nokia Bell Labs, where he works on energy-efficient hardware–software platforms for AI accelerators. His work focuses on developing and optimizing AI kernels for emerging accelerator architectures, with attention to power and resource constraints. He is interested in how architectural choices, memory hierarchies, and system constraints influence the behavior of deployed AI systems.

In his current project, Vishwajit contributes to a compute-in-memory (CIM) based custom RISC-V core, spanning embedded software development and system-level integration. On this platform, he acts as a bridge between software and hardware teams, supporting software–hardware co-design so that architectural decisions are reflected in software. His experience includes C and C++ development, embedded system design, and sensor integration, with a steady focus on low-power behavior.

Before joining Nokia Bell Labs, Vishwajit worked in the Netherlands on low-power, battery-operated sensor devices, further reinforcing his interest in embedded systems with strict energy and resource constraints. He holds an MSc in Embedded Systems from the University of Twente, Netherlands. Outside work, he enjoys board games, football, badminton, and following developments in tech.
