High T sub c Superconductors - Prospects and Issues (NOT KNOWN IF PUBLISHED BECAUSE AUTHOR HAS LEFT AT&T)
18 April 1988
The recent discovery of high T sub c superconductors has created a world-wide explosion in activities in this area. Such heightened activities can be traced in part to prospects for broad applications of superconductivity which impact greatly on energy, transportation, health care, information movement and management, and other major segments of the economy. In addition, the discovery has created a new level of excitement about the science of superconductivity, with promise of new physics. It must be recognized, h however, that the work is only a beginning and that many issues and challenges lie ahead. Some of those issues, such as achieving greater critical current density in bulk form and overcoming the basic brittle nature of ceramics, will be discussed.
