Interconnecting Signaling Networks
01 January 1988
Common Channel Signaling (CCS) is fundamental to the evolution of telecommunications services. In the North American telecommunications environment the provision of end-to-end services frequently involves more than one network. This paper examines the considerations involved in interconnecting networks with CCS. This includes the signaling protocol and its evolution in both national and international standards organizations. This also includes network management to control network interfaces and insure end-to-end service connectivity. Finally, this paper discusses the current and evolving service applications using CCS network interconnection.
