Coherent Digital Signal Processors

High performance and design simplicity

What is a coherent DSP?

A coherent digital signal processor (DSP) is a digital ASIC that prepares data for transmission over an optical fiber and extracts it upon reception. These components are designed to enable error free transmission over long distances (40km - 10,000km) at very high bitrates (100Gb/s – 1.2+Tb/s). Coherent DSPs are paired with advanced optics that support polarization mode multiplexing and phase shift keying.

DSPs can include the following functionality:

  • modulation encoding and decoding
  • analog-digital conversion (ADC/DAC)
  • spectral shaping
  • carrier, polarization, and clock recovery
  • compensation for channel distortions
  • probabilistic constellation shaping (PCS)
  • forward error correction (FEC)

Products

Tahoe 800G DSP

800g-dsp

Tahoe 800G is a high-performance DSP designed to power the new generation of multi-vendor interoperable ZR/ZR+ coherent pluggable optics from 200G to 800G. It leverages the power and efficiency of 3-nm-based CMOS technology to support 800 Gb/s-capable digital coherent optics (DCO) in compact pluggable form factors such as QSFP-DD800 and OSFP, with superior optical performance and low power consumption.

Tahoe 800G DSP can compensate for large amounts of chromatic dispersion while supporting advanced PCS and multiple modulation formats such as QPSK and 16QAM, to maximize wavelength capacity over any distance. It offers highly programmable symbol rates up to 135 GBaud.

Tahoe DSP enables multi-vendor operability across all data rates, from 200G to 800G with support for CFEC, OFEC and open PCS.

Tahoe 800G DSP is available for integration into pluggable DCOs and can be combined with Nokia ICTR140 TROSA or with a third-party optical front-end.

WA’A 400G DSP

400g-dsp

The WA’A 400G is a high-performance DSP designed to power 100G, 200G and 400G point-point and point-to-multipoint applications. It leverages digital subcarriers to support 400Gb/s-capable digital coherent optics (DCO) in compact pluggable form factors such as QSFP-DD and CFP2-DCO.

The WA’A 400G can operate in point-to-point and in point-to-multipoint configurations for maximum networking flexibility and supports in-band and out-of-band management options.

The WA’A 400G supports multiple modulation formats such as QPSK, 8QAM, and 16QAM, to maximize wavelength capacity over any given distance. It offers highly programmable symbol rates up to 71 GBaud and supports FEC to ensure error-free transmission of data over optical fiber.

The WA’A 400G DSP is available for integration into pluggable DCOs and can be combined with Nokia ICTR64 TROSA or with a third-party optical front-end.
