Driving innovation

Nokia Bangalore R&D Center: Nokia’s commitment to India is deeply engraved in the way we harness the potential of local talent for research and development. One of the 4 main global R&D sites for the company, the R&D center is undertaking research in various advanced global telecommunication technologies like to focus on next-generation technologies - cloud, ‘big data’ analytics, software applications, next-generation core, IP, Optical, 4G and 5G.

The center also plays a key role in developing local ecosystem partnership to develop 5G use-cases such as AR\VR based immersive learning experience; drone-based applications for agriculture, public safety energy and utilities. The center is also developing and conducting trials of 5G and IoT use-cases for developing market. Some of these use-cases have been successfully tested in live 5G NR System in India for the first time ever.

Manufacturing Operations: Nokia’s Chennai facility, best-in-class infrastructure with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 ISO 27001 certifications and spreads over 140,000 Sq. meters. This facility manufactures & ships the complete gamut of telecom products (2G, 3G, LTE & Core Networks) for domestic and global markets with close to 50% of the finished radio base station products being exported. The factory was the first to start production of 5G radio equipment in India.

In 2018, Nokia deployed the next level of industrial automation, leveraging 4G LTE technology at the factory, making it India's first 'real-world' application of Industry 4.0. The factory committed to enable government’s vision for `Make in India’. Nokia’s Chennai factory is the first telecom factory in India to start manufacturing 5G New Radio base stations.
Global Delivery Center: Nokia was a pioneer in setting up its largest Global Delivery Centers in Chennai and Noida. These centers today employ over 4,000 highly skilled employees in India who provide support for various stages of the networks across 103 countries.
