Applications of a Final Assembly Sequencing Tool for Just-In- Time Manufacturing
24 May 1988
JIT manufacturing requires smooth demand rates for all parts that feed into final assembly. If the end-products are customized, e.g., telecommunications systems, the final assembly sequence affects demands imposed on feeder shops. We review a math programming model of the JIT final assembly sequencing problem and describe several diverse applications that have proven effective in the manufacture of high-technology telecommunications systems.
