Hughes Aircraft Company (HAC) selected AT&T for an additional VHSIC chip development under Army contract DAAB07-84-C-K588. Under this program, the VHSIC 40MHz Encoder/Decoder was designed in AT&T's 1.25 micron CMOS technology using AT&T's standard cell design system. Front end logic design and simulation were performed by HAC while AT&T performed chip physical design, layout, performance verification, and processing. First pass design success was confirmed through testing performed by AT&T and evaluation by HAC. This first pass success is on large measure due to SICAD, AT&T's advanced system of integrated computer aided design tools.
