The normal-state and superconducting thermodynamic properties of Y Ba sub 2 Cu sub 3 O sub 7 superconductors with T sub c near 90 K can be explained by conventional electron-phonon interactions in the strong-coupling limit. Reasons are given for preferring this limit to the weak-coupling limit where interactions are mediated by excitons.
