Electrically induced failures have been known to occur in electronic products and assemblies. These failures can be classified into two major groups - electromigration and electrolytic corrosion. Electromigration is the transport of the material of a conductor due to electron flux when the conductor is subjected to a high electric current density. Electrolytic corrosion occurs when electrochemical reactions and transport take place under the influence of an applied electric field and in the presence of an electrolyte.
