PAC World 2026

PAC World 2025

TU Delft, Aula Congress Center - Delft, Netherlands

Join Nokia at PAC World 2026 in Delft, The Netherlands as we share how we’re reshaping the future of protection, automation and control (PAC) systems to support digital substations and next-generation grid resiliency.
Our experts will present two thought-leading papers on the role of secure IP/MPLS networking, private wireless, and virtualization in modern grid protection schemes.

Modernizing utility IP/MPLS Networks with Segment Routing and EVPN
Presented by: Ziad Majzoub, Nokia, Canada and Dominique Verhulst, Nokia, Belgium
Join us for a discussion on how mission-critical systems from differential protection to SCADA and synchrophasors, depend on deterministic paths, precise delay control, and sub‑50 ms switching. We’ll explore how RSVP-TE has delivered these capabilities with explicit LSPs and Fast Reroute, but can struggle to scale due to hop-by-hop signaling and state overhead. You’ll also learn how Segment Routing simplifies the control plane and supports an incremental migration alongside existing RSVP-TE networks.

EVPN services supporting IEC 61850: Scalable Multicast and Secure Utility Communications
Presented by: Dr. Mauricio Subieta, Nokia, USA
Join this presentation to learn how electric utilities are upgrading substation and wide-area networks to transport time-critical IEC 61850 traffic, native Layer-2 GOOSE/Sampled Values and routed Layer-3 extensions (R-GOOSE/R-SV), over converged packet infrastructures. This paper proposes EVPN as a unified service layer that preserves IEC 61850 semantics while improving multicast efficiency, convergence, and scalability versus traditional VPLS and L3VPN approaches that rely on flood-and-learn behavior and can cause unnecessary flooding as deployments grow.

Stop by our booth #10 to explore how Nokia’s end-to-end networking solutions are enabling the digitalization of substations and distribution grids across the globe.
