Nokia wins 5G World award for most innovative machine learning software product

23 September 2021

Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announced that 5G World has honored it with the Most Innovative Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning Technology for the Network Award for Anomaly Detection Service, a software product jointly developed with Vodafone, that detects and remediates network anomalies before they impact customers.

Anomaly Detection Service, launched in July, is based on Nokia Bell Labs technology and is being rolled out across Vodafone’s pan-European network. The product quickly detects and troubleshoots irregularities, such as mobile site congestion and interference, and unexpected latency, that can impact customer service quality.

Vodafone expects that around 80 percent of all its anomalous mobile network issues and capacity demands will be automatically detected and addressed using Anomaly Detection Service.

5G World is sponsored by Informa Tech, an information provider in the Information and Communications (ICT) Technology sector.

Johan Wibergh, Chief Technology Officer for Vodafone, said: “This is an excellent acknowledgement of the strong work that many engineers at Vodafone and Nokia have contributed over a considerable amount of time. As Vodafone extends its pan-European 5G network, Anomaly Detection is critical to match the speed and responsiveness of this new technology with a great service for our customers.”

Raghav Sahgal, President of Cloud and Network Services, Nokia, said: “I am thrilled for Nokia and our partners at Vodafone about this recognition. The work that Nokia and Vodafone have done with Anomaly Detection Service underlines not only the strength of our working relationship but the Nokia pedigree of producing world class technologies. Our work with Vodafone continues and I think we can all expect additional, jointly developed solutions that rival the many customer benefits that Anomaly Detection delivers.”
